Welcome to Wife on the Spectrum!

The 'wife' in question is me - a late-diagnosed, married, autistic woman (she/her pronouns) based in the UK. I was diagnosed aged 30 and spent a lot of my life wondering what was 'wrong' with me and why everything was so difficult, but 'easy' for everybody else.

After my diagnosis, there were a lot of realisations, retrospectives, and a strong desire to reach out to others in a similar boat. I had toyed with the idea of creating an online resource focussed around my experiences of autism for as long I have been diagnosed. This finally came into fruition in early 2024 - nearly 2 years after my diagnosis process started.

I created this blog to document not just my life and experiences as an autistic person, but how that impacts others around me - including my husband, especially as he is neurotypical.

Growing up undiagnosed, I had no resources to help me figure things out. This is my way of giving back, to me as a child, and to those who also may be struggling, no matter their gender identity, relationship status or neurotype. Just because the site is titled 'wife' and 'on the spectrum', this does not mean you have to be either of these to engage in the content or find it relatable. It is intended for all audiences.

I am not a qualified healthcare professional of any sort, nor a psychologist, and so cannot pass judgement on your diagnostic status or claim to be the fount of all autistic knowledge. Everything on here and across my social media platforms are a means to be another voice in the community (to reinforce strength in numbers), raise awareness, and to share my experiences of autism from this particular spot on the spectrum.
